Last winter we attempted to distract our resident squirrels by leaving whole cobs of feed corn out at various spots in the yard. Being squirrels, they buried a lot of it. This was one of two dozen ears growing in various spots in our flower beds. This was the largest ear that grew. Most of the rest (of the ones we let grow) were much smaller.

One of the nice things about living where we do is that we can still have campfires. We have a fire pit in the back yard and regularly burn the many, many, branches that come down from our silver maple trees. In this case a little green wood from some bush trimming was thrown into the mix.

This is how I photographed yesterdays image of the tiger lily. It was a shot born out of necessity, in a way. The breeze was moving the lily around so much I couldn’t get a decent shot, so I stabilized the whole thing by setting up the tripod in such a way that the flower rested on the lens. It worked great!
