About

“The main thing is what you express. The medium is only of secondary importance.” -Piet Stockmans

Personal Notes
I live in Crystal Lake, IL and work in Chicago, IL. I’ve enjoyed photography my entire life, but like most people, was baffled by the mysteries of the camera, the film, the developing. It wasn’t until 2003 that I made the step from snap-shooter to photographer. Of course, this does not mean I became a good photographer. Rather, I begin the learning process of becoming a photographer. This process continues to this day.

Equipment
Both film and digital, but mostly digital. I not only enjoy photography as an art but as a mechanical process. I like cameras and all the many designs, styles, and formats.

Current digital cameras include: Canon Rebel T1i (500D), Canon Rebel XT (350D), Canon Powershot A650 IS, & Olympus TG-810.
Former digital cameras include: Canon Powershot A80, Fuji Finepix A205.

Film cameras include: Canon Elan 7, Canon Rebel 2000, Canon AE-1, Canonet QL18 GIII, Olympus Stylus Epic, Canon Sureshot 85, Holga 120S + Polaroid SB80 back, Kodak S110, and various other misc film cameras.

Current Canon EOS lenses: EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, EF 24mm f/2.8, EF 35mm f/2, EF 50mm f/1.8 Mark II, EF 85mm f/1.8, EF 100mm f/2.8 macro, EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS, EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 USM Mark III, EF 28-80 f/3.5-5.6. Current Sigma lenses: 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5, 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 Aspherical. Canon FD lenses: 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.8.

Motivation
I will admit that I’m very much attracted to the equipment-side of photography. The mechanical devices, the various lenses. But that can only take me so far. I need to know more; to learn more; to understand more. I want to be able to distill a scene without thinking about it. I want to be able to see what others do not see. I want to be able to capture what others cannot.

Photoblog
I started this blog as a way to motivate myself to shoot. It’s a self-imposed assignment: find good images to post. I also maintain a flickr account, mainly for the community aspects. There is duplication between the two, but I prefer this site for presentation of my images. On average, this photoblog is updated every other day.
