I watched this machine for a while lift and crush this huge concrete column. It had a very “predator/prey” feel to it. It’s sad to see this parking garage go, if only for the 50’s “Parking” font that was very much an icon along the Chicago river.

I didn’t realize this until after I returned from my walk, but the word “Full” is hovering right over a reflection of a self-storage building across the street. Maybe it’s a stretch, but I there is a bit of social commentary here. Society is, in many ways, full. We over-buy, over-collect, over-indulge. That we have to rent space to store our stuff away from our homes is a telling sign.

I shot a couple photos here trying to capture the curve of the underside of the tracks and it just wasn’t working for me. I looked at them for a while in Photoshop when I realized exactly why: The curve of the “C” shape was backwards with the original photograph. Rotated 180 deg was exactly what I was hoping to capture.

Sometimes a different perspective is required.
