I saw this “15 mph” sign sitting in the middle of the brush and found it quite fitting. But it wasn’t until I have the photos developed that I noticed the hand prints all over the metal drum. River West, Chicago.

This photo is not good, per-say, but it’s important to me. It’s an area of Chicago that I’ve been wanting to walk to for a while but never got up the nerve to do. It’s silly really, not going, but a couple weeks ago on a nice day I finally made it. I’ve seen coyotes out here. I’ve seen the plants and trees grow and grow since the buildings were torn down–the unstoppable forces of nature reclaiming the land.

Define irony: Destroy the original Maxwell Street Market through shady deals and back-door politics. Put up a gaudy high-end shopping district in its place. Then, use an empty storefront that you are apparently unable to lease to showcase photos of famous scenes from the original Maxwell Street Market that you have just destroyed. There are so many people in Chicago that hate its roots and its past and work long and hard to destroy any evidence of this. It is shameful.
