RIP Jasmine
This is a silly photo. I was just playing around with long exposures with the point-and-shoot and she (and the nativity) were the best subjects I had at the time. This was taken just this past December.
Real tree or artificial, Jasmine would spend as much time under them as she possibly could. Difficult to do as Nate and Lily arrived in our world, but she’d almost always be there after the kids went to bed. She will be missed.
Bedford Park
Last week I was working in a rail yard on the south-west side of Chicago (near Midway Airport). Because of the snow, and because I had to be back the next day early in the morning, I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express south of Midway in the town of Bedford Park (right on the edge of the city limits). This was the view out my hotel room looking south-west. I took it mainly to remember the time I took an overnight business trip to Chicago, from Crystal Lake. 🙂

Another view of the emerging sap from a piece of the trunk from our blue spruce pine we had to have taken down in our back yard.
sap
We had to have a big blue spruce tree, from our back yard, taken down. I thought keeping the wood would be great for our backyard fire pit (after it dries) but I’m sorta wondering if the pieces of trunk will be with us for many, many years. This photo is, obviously, of some sap running from one of those pieces, illuminated quite nicely in the unseasonably warm January sun.
