| When clearing weeds in one of our flower beds, I found this newly molted cicada (though not so new as its wings appeared dry). I gently picked it up and discovered how strong the instinct to climb is in these creatures. It almost never stopped moving and almost always upward. If I turned my hand over, it would immediatly right itself and try climbing up (and up my arm). Also, the grip with its feet is quite impressive. I eventually put it on the head of my tripod where, again, once it oriented itself (and figured out a tripod wasn't dangerous), it climbed right to the top. |
